Connectors Assignment & Pinouts

Often we have difficulty connecting certain peripherals to a PC only because some plugs do not fit and often we waste our time moving files from one PC to another on diskettes only because we do not have the right cable in order to connect the two PCs through the parallel port. Occassionaly, when our PC starts it makes strange beeps or display a message because a memory chip or the VGA card has moved or because some cable has come off.

Problems such as these are easy to resolve; just follow the instructions below. All we need is a polymeter, a soldering iron, a screwdriver and just a bit of practical experience. Due to the open architecture followed by all PC manufacturers and the standard rules which apply to all PC components, it is quite easy to intervene and make whatever changes are necessary.

The component technical data and the symbols on the ends of each cable are described below. There are also cable construction and peripheral converter- connector drawings along with drawings for every connector described. All are listed in seven categories.

In this list there is no description of each component or its function. Only technical data are supplied which may not be found in a user's manual.
All data presented here are based on various technical manuals and PC magazines.
